About Frigidaire Cooktop Repair
A Frigidaire cooktop is a separate drop-in unit set into the counter, sold in gas, radiant electric and induction versions, with Gallery and Professional options. Because it sits above a cabinet rather than an oven, its electronics breathe through whatever space is below. That detail matters most on induction models, which carry power boards and a cooling fan beneath the glass.
Induction is where Frigidaire has pushed the price down, so these cooktops are increasingly common. They fail in recognizable ways. A blocked or tired cooling fan lets the boards overheat and the unit shuts down mid-cook. A surge or plain age takes out a power board and leaves zones dead. Wet touch controls register phantom presses. Gallery bridge zones link two coils, so a fault in either one can disable the pair.
Radiant models are simpler. An element under the ceramic glass burns open, a switch or control board fails, or the hot-surface light stops working or stays lit after the glass has cooled. Gas cooktops use sealed burners with spark ignition, and spills foul the igniters and module while grease and food clog the burner ports. All of this work is reached from the countertop or the cabinet underneath.
During a visit we test elements, switches, the control, coils, power boards and fan, or the igniters and valves on gas models. We also check the supply circuit. A cooktop on an undersized breaker can trip repeatedly and look like an internal fault, which is worth knowing before anyone orders a board. Keeping the cabinet below clear of stored items helps the fan do its job.
Replacing an element, switch or igniter is good value on a Frigidaire cooktop. Repeated board failures on an aging induction unit are the tougher case, because two boards can approach the cost of a new cooktop, and we lay that comparison out before any order. Countertop cut-out size is part of the decision too, since a replacement has to fit the existing opening.
Where Frigidaire Cooktops Tend to Fail
- Induction cooling fan blocked or worn, shutting the cooktop down mid-cook
- Induction power board failing after a surge, leaving zones dead
- Radiant element or switch burned open under the ceramic glass
- Gas spark igniters fouled by spills, burners failing to light
