Houses, Apartments & Condos Across the Tampa Bay Area
GE Appliances is a Louisville, Kentucky company that Haier has owned since 2016. Its products run from plain GE models in rentals and tract homes to GE Profile, with Café and Monogram covering the premium and luxury built-in market. Our first step on a GE call is reading the model and serial tag, since line and generation decide which controls and parts are inside. Oven F-codes and board diagnostics point the way, and a meter confirms the fault before any part is ordered.

Sorting Out Which GE You Own
Haier has owned GE Appliances since 2016, and the company is still headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. It sells under several names: plain GE for apartments and tract homes, GE Profile with nicer materials and app features, Café for pro-inspired kitchens, Monogram for luxury built-ins, and Hotpoint at the budget end.
To a technician the badge is only a first clue. Two GE refrigerators from one model year can run completely different controls, and a Café range has little in common internally with an entry electric model. We read the model and serial tag before testing, since line and generation decide which checks apply.
Fault Codes Are a Lead, Not a Verdict
Electronic GE ovens report problems with a long-standing set of F-codes. On many models F3 or F4 points at the temperature probe circuit, F2 means the cavity ran too hot, and F9 involves the door lock. That narrows the search fast.
A code still describes a symptom. A rubbed-through wire or a loose plug can throw the same F3 as a dead probe, so we measure resistance at the probe and again at the board before ordering.
Refrigerators: Boards, Defrost and Ice
On many GE side-by-sides and bottom-mount models, one main board drives the evaporator fan, defrost heater and dispenser. A failed board can masquerade as a bad fan, an iced-over coil or a dead ice maker, so we check its outputs before condemning anything it powers.
Ice makers that will not fill or will not dump cubes are another regular GE complaint. A frozen fill tube, a weak inlet valve and a stalled ejector motor each call for a different fix, and their symptoms overlap enough that guessing gets expensive.
Storm Season and Garage Fridges in Tampa
June through November brings daily lightning and the occasional tropical system, and GE control boards do not handle surges well. If a fridge hums but will not cool after the power comes back, or the dispenser went dark, the board needs testing. Surge protection is sensible for a Profile or Café unit, though nothing stops every spike.
Lots of Tampa households keep an older GE as a second fridge in the garage. A July garage can run hotter than that unit was designed for, so the compressor barely rests and defrost trouble arrives sooner. Muggy air also makes door seals sweat, which sends us to the gaskets and hinges.
Dishwashers, Ranges, Dryers and When to Stop
A GE dishwasher has one pump for washing and another for draining, so dirty dishes and standing water are usually separate repairs. Gas ranges lose igniters and spark switches to boilovers. Dryers wear out front glides, belts and idlers, and a long vent run from the garage overworks the heater.
Current GE parts are easy to source, so most of these jobs are worth doing. The harder calls are a sealed-system leak on an older fridge, a board for a discontinued model, or Hotpoint-era parts that have dried up. We check availability by serial number and say plainly when replacing is smarter.
Looking for model numbers, recall notices or warranty registration? Those live on the manufacturer's own site: GE Appliances official site. We are an independent repair company and are not affiliated with GE.
