About GE Range Repair
A range puts the cooktop and oven in one cabinet on one power supply, so we diagnose a GE range as a single system. The lineup runs from basic freestanding gas and electric models to Profile slide-ins and Café dual-fuel and induction ranges. Many share GE's electronic oven control and its F-code diagnostics, and upper models add convection, air fry, Wi-Fi and sometimes a griddle or a second oven.
Electrical faults are the ones that cross between the oven and the burners. Where the power cord meets the range, a loose or overheated connection at the terminal block can leave the oven dead or knock out several elements on an electric model, and the block often shows discoloration. A tripped leg of a double breaker produces a similar pattern, which is why we check incoming voltage early.
Lightning season brings another pattern to Tampa kitchens: a display that goes blank after a storm while some burners still work. On many GE ranges the cooktop controls run independently of the oven's electronic board, so a damaged board can take out the oven and display alone. Shutting off the breaker for a few minutes sometimes resets a confused control. A board that stays dark needs testing.
Gas GE ranges have their own repeat fault: a weak oven igniter on a range whose cooktop works perfectly. The igniter glows but no longer draws enough current to open the safety valve. Café dual-fuel models need two separate diagnoses, one for the gas cooktop and one for the electric oven. Never move a gas range yourself, and keep the anti-tip bracket engaged, which we confirm on every visit.
We test the terminal block and wiring, control relays, elements, igniters and sensors. Repairs on Profile and Café slide-ins are usually worth it, since a replacement must fit the same opening and cabinetry. On an older basic range with a failed control board, the repair can come close to the cost of a new range, and we will tell you plainly.
Where GE Ranges Tend to Fail
- Burned terminal block at the cord, oven or elements dead
- Oven control board damaged by a surge, display blank
- Weak gas oven igniter while the cooktop lights normally
- Dual-fuel range with separate gas-side and electric-side faults
