La Cornue Range Repair

Every Château is its own machine. La Cornue assembles these ranges by hand and builds them to order, often several feet wide, with the buyer choosing gas or electric ovens or both, cooktop modules such as burners, a French top, a plancha or induction, and the enamel color, trim metal and knob style. That freedom is the appeal, and it means a service call has to start by documenting the exact build.

Original order paperwork helps more than anything else, because it lists the configuration and lets parts be matched quickly. Without it we can still read the serial plate and identify components; it simply takes longer. Do not try to pull the range out to look behind it, since a Château is extremely heavy and tied to both gas and electrical supplies. Most repairs can be done from the front or top.

Faults follow the components your range has. Burner thermocouples weaken and let flames drop out, igniters and switches wear, and spills set off clicking. Oven thermostats drift, gas vaulted ovens can become hard to light, and electric ovens lose elements or convection fans. On ranges with electronic controls, a power surge from a summer lightning storm can damage them, a real risk across the Tampa Bay area.

Trim, knobs and enamel need care over decades of use, and loose or cracked knobs can be replaced. If you smell gas, do not touch light switches; leave and call the gas utility or 911 from outdoors. Otherwise, write down which parts of the range are affected and exactly what happens when you try to use them. That short record speeds up the visit and the parts search.

Repair is nearly always the right call on a Château, since replacing one is a major expense and a long wait.
