About AGA Range Repair
AGA's conventional range cookers have the deep enamel colors and multiple ovens of a classic British range, but they work like modern appliances. A gas or induction cooktop sits above electric ovens that heat when you switch them on, often a conventional oven, a fan oven, a broiler and sometimes a slow-cook or warming oven. They suit owners who want the AGA look without a cooker that runs all day.
Each oven is a separate circuit with its own elements, sensor and often its own fan, so one can fail while the others keep working. That is good news for the repair. A dead fan oven usually needs one element, one fan motor or one sensor, not a new range. Door hinges and seals wear on each cavity too, and a worn seal shows up as long preheats and heat escaping around the door.
On gas-top models, igniters and spark modules fail or click without stopping, and burner caps that are not seated properly after cleaning will not light. Induction tops lose a zone when a coil or control board fails, and a power surge is a common trigger. Before calling, confirm that the pan is induction-compatible and that the control lock has not been switched on by accident.
Check the breaker first; the electric ovens and induction top need a dedicated circuit, and a tripped breaker can look like a major failure. Do not pull the range out yourself. It is very heavy and connected to gas and electrical supplies, and the surrounding cabinetry is easy to damage. If you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas utility or 911 once outside.
We test each oven's elements, fan and sensor, the cooktop ignition or induction system, and the controls. AGA parts are imported, so we check availability before recommending a repair and tell you how long it may take. Given the cost of the range and the cabinetry around it, repair usually makes sense. If a control on an older model is no longer supported, we explain the options honestly.
Where AGA Ranges Tend to Fail
- One oven's element, fan or sensor failing while others work
- Gas igniter or spark module clicking or not lighting
- Induction zone lost to a coil or control board failure
- Oven door hinges and seals worn, letting heat escape
