About Viking Range Repair
This page covers Viking dual-fuel ranges, which put the brand's heavy gas burners above an electric oven, a combination that changes what fails. Many 5 Series and 7 Series models use TruConvec, with a third element around the convection fan, and 48 and 60-inch ranges add a second oven along with a griddle, a grill or both. Controls run from knobs and a mechanical thermostat to electronic boards with sensors.
Before you book, put an oven thermometer on the center rack, set the oven and read it after twenty minutes. That one number tells us a lot. A big gap on an older range points toward the thermostat, while an electronic model that reads off usually has a sensor or control problem. Uneven browning with convection on, but not with it off, points at the convection fan or the third element.
Bake, broil and convection elements burn out, usually with a visible blister or break. Convection fan motors start grinding before they stop. Self-clean is hard on door locks and thermal fuses, and electronic controls can fail after a storm surge, a real risk during the Tampa lightning season. If the controls lock up, a minute with the breaker off sometimes resets them.
The cooktop has the same weak points as Viking's all-gas models: igniters that click from moisture or crack under a dropped grate, and spark modules that fail. Griddle thermostats can also fail on larger ranges, leaving the griddle cold or uneven. On dual-oven ranges, each oven has its own elements and controls, so one can quit while the other keeps working normally.
We test each element, the convection motor, the sensor or thermostat, the controls, door lock and hinges, check each oven on its own, then test burner ignition and the griddle. A dual-fuel Viking is costly to replace and usually matched to a hood and backsplash, so element, fan, sensor and ignition repairs make sense. If a control board is needed, we explain cost and lead time first.
Where Viking Ranges Tend to Fail
- Bake, broil or TruConvec element blistered and burned open
- Convection fan motor grinding, then stopping mid-bake
- Oven sensor or control board failing after a storm surge
- Griddle thermostat failing on 48 and 60-inch ranges
