About Amana Range Repair
An Amana range is two appliances sharing one cabinet and one power supply, and diagnosing it means checking both halves. They come in gas, electric coil and electric smoothtop versions built on Whirlpool platforms, with knobs for the surface units and either knobs or a basic electronic panel for the oven. Around Tampa they are a staple of apartments, rental houses and builder-grade kitchens.
Before anything else, flip the range breaker fully off and back on. An electric range runs on a double breaker, and when only one side trips, the result is confusing: the oven may work while part of the cooktop is dead, or the other way around. Many homes in the Tampa Bay area are all-electric, so this comes up often. If the breaker trips again right away, leave it off and book a visit.
On gas ranges, the oven's bake igniter is the usual failure, showing up as long preheats or no flame at all. Many Amana gas ranges put the broil burner inside the main oven cavity instead of a separate drawer, so the oven's ignition system handles both baking and broiling. The surface burners have their own spark igniters, which foul from spills, and their ports can clog and burn unevenly.
On coil ranges, try a dead burner in a working socket of the same size. If it heats there, the receptacle or the switch is at fault. On smoothtops, one zone that stays dark usually traces to that element or its switch, not the whole glass top. In the oven, elements, sensors and control boards fail, and boards can be hurt by summer lightning surges. Also confirm the anti-tip bracket is in place.
We test igniters, switches, receptacles, elements, sensor and board on both the cooktop and the oven, so a second fault does not show up next week. If the range has to come out, we protect the floor. Parts are shared with Whirlpool. Most repairs are worth doing; a failed board combined with other major parts on an older basic range can tip things toward replacement, and we say so plainly.
Where Amana Ranges Tend to Fail
- Half-tripped double breaker killing the oven or some burners
- Bake igniter weakening, slowing oven ignition on gas models
- Coil receptacle or infinite switch burned out on one burner
- Oven sensor or electronic board damaged by a power surge
