About Thermador Range Repair
On a two-oven Thermador range, one cavity can quit while its neighbor bakes normally, so we check each oven on its own. Pro Harmony comes in 30- and 36-inch widths and Pro Grand goes up to 60, with all-gas, dual-fuel and induction versions. Larger models pair a main oven with a smaller second cavity that is sometimes a steam oven or a separate convection oven, each with its own controls.
Steam ovens on Pro Grand models are their own category of service. They depend on a water tank, a pump, a steam generator and level sensing, and minerals left behind by tap water scale the system until it throws an error. Descaling per the manual and confirming the tank is seated solve many of these calls. If the error keeps returning, we test the pump, the generator and the level sensors.
The conventional oven faults are the ones we see across pro-style ranges: weak gas igniters, temperature sensors that drift and bake unevenly, convection fans that quit, door locks stuck after self-clean, and controls that misbehave after a surge. On top, Star burners click or fail to light after spills. Induction models carry their own power electronics, tested apart from the oven.
Our diagnosis works through ignition parts and gas valves, oven igniters and sensors, elements and convection motors, then the steam system or induction boards depending on the model. Writing down any error message before you reset the breaker helps. If a lock is stuck after self-clean, let the oven cool completely first. Any smell of gas means everyone outside and a call to the gas utility.
These ranges are made to last and parts stay available for years, so even older Thermador units are usually worth repairing. Specialty parts sometimes carry a long lead time, and we tell you before the work is scheduled. If more than one major component has failed on an aging range, we give you an honest comparison with replacement rather than assuming repair.
Where Thermador Ranges Tend to Fail
- Star burners failing to light after a boilover soaks the igniters
- Pro Grand steam oven errors from scale or a failing pump
- Drifting oven sensor leaving bakes uneven
- One of two oven cavities failing while the other works
