About Thermador Stove Repair
When a Thermador owner says stove, they usually mean a freestanding pro-style unit from the Pro Harmony or Pro Grand family. Widths run 30 to 60 inches, fuel is all-gas or dual-fuel, Star burners sit up top, and a griddle or grill is optional. The widest Pro Grand models carry up to eight burners over two ovens, and some dual-fuel versions add a steam oven beside the main cavity.
On an all-gas Thermador, slow or failed oven heating is the call we hear most. Its hot-surface igniter loses strength with age, glowing as usual while pulling too little current for the gas valve to open all the way, so the oven lights late or not at all. On a dual-fuel stove the oven is electric, and elements, convection fans and temperature sensors are the usual failures instead.
Up top, grease and moisture crust the igniter tips, and on a stove that cooks for a family every day, that crust alone often explains it. Clicking after a boilover, cracked igniters and failed spark modules round out the list, along with Star caps that are not seated. Griddle elements and thermostats wear too. When every burner looks weak at once, we check the gas pressure regulator.
We check ignition and burner valves, measure the oven igniter's amperage, test sensors, elements and the convection motor, then the griddle and any steam oven. With the stove cool, you can wipe the burners and igniters dry, then set the Star caps back in place. Note whether the oven clicks or glows when it fails to light. A gas smell means getting out first and calling the gas utility or 911 once outside.
Thermador pro-style stoves are built to be repaired, and replacing an igniter, sensor, fan or element is ordinary work on them. Some specialty parts take time to arrive, and we tell you that upfront so the stove is not out of commission longer than it needs to be. If the stove is new enough that Thermador still covers it, using that coverage first may be the better route.
Where Thermador Stoves Tend to Fail
- Weak oven igniter delaying or preventing gas oven heat
- Spark module failure leaving every burner unlit
- Griddle element or thermostat heating unevenly
- Convection fan or sensor faults in dual-fuel ovens
