About Frigidaire Stove Repair
On this page, stove means the top of a Frigidaire range, the burners you use every day, as opposed to the oven underneath. Frigidaire builds that surface three ways: gas burners lit by spark igniters, exposed electric coils plugged into receptacles, and radiant elements under a smooth glass top. The three share almost no parts, so the first question at any visit is which one you have.
Coil tops produce the most calls. The burner plugs into a receptacle beneath the drip pan, and a loose or corroded connection there makes heat, which pits the terminals and scorches the socket. The burner then heats only when jiggled, or quits entirely. Lining drip pans with foil makes it worse by trapping heat. A separate failure, the infinite switch, leaves a burner glowing red at every setting.
Gas tops fail at the ignition end. Spills soak the spark igniters or the module, causing constant clicking or no spark, and clogged burner ports produce a ragged, uneven flame. Glass tops stay quiet until a radiant element or its switch fails, or the glass cracks from a dropped pot or a heavy pan dragged across it. A crack means stop using it, since spills can reach live parts below.
A simple swap test helps on coil stoves. With the power off, move a dead burner into a working socket of the same size. If it heats there, replace the burner; if not, the socket or switch is at fault. At the visit we test switches, receptacles and elements, check gas flow and spark at each burner, and look for heat damage creeping along the wiring behind a scorched receptacle.
Burners, receptacles, switches and igniters are cheap, quick repairs. When a receptacle is scorched, we replace the burner along with it so pitted terminals do not damage the new socket. The expensive outlier is cracked glass on an older basic range, where the replacement top can run close to a new range, so we price both paths if you are facing that choice.
Where Frigidaire Stoves Tend to Fail
- Scorched coil receptacle leaving a burner intermittent or dead
- Infinite switch stuck on, so a coil burner glows red at every setting
- Spark igniter soaked by spills, clicking nonstop or failing to light
- Glass top cracked by a dropped pot or a heavy pan dragged across it
