About JennAir Stove Repair
A burner that clicks nonstop, or clicks without ever lighting, accounts for most JennAir stove calls. Moisture from a boil-over, a cap sitting a little crooked, or grease on the spark electrode will do it. Less often, the spark module or a burner switch has actually failed. If the clicking began right after you cleaned the top, give the burners a full day to dry before calling anyone.
JennAir gas stoves use sealed burners with brass or aluminum caps and electronic spark ignition, often with dual-stacked burners that can hold a very low simmer. Burner caps are sized to their own bases and are not interchangeable, and a cap on the wrong burner causes poor ignition and an uneven flame. Electric and induction JennAir tops put radiant elements or induction coils under glass instead.
A weak, yellow or ragged flame usually means clogged ports. Clean them with a soft brush, not a toothpick, which can snap off inside. On electric tops, one element that stays cold points to either the element or its switch, and we test both. Some older JennAir stoves have a downdraft vent between the burners, and its blower, filter and duct are a separate system with their own faults.
We inspect burner heads and electrodes, test the spark module and each burner switch, and check gas flow and flame quality. On electric tops we test elements, switches and any touch control board. If a downdraft is involved, we evaluate its blower and duct on their own. Never adjust gas valves or connections yourself, and leave the home and call the gas utility if you smell gas.
Igniters, switches, spark modules and caps are modest repairs that keep a well-built stove going for years. The main surface repair that calls for a cost comparison is a cracked glass top on an electric model. Drying the burner base right after a boil-over prevents a lot of the clicking that brings people to us in the first place.
