About La Cornue Stove Repair
When a La Cornue owner calls about a stove, the range is often a CornuFé. That line brings the brand's arched oven door, brass or chrome trim and classic knobs to fixed widths and set configurations, rather than the build-to-order approach of the Château. A CornuFé typically pairs gas burners with one or two ovens, and its parts are more uniform from one unit to the next.
Day to day, a CornuFé behaves like other gas ranges with flame-safety burners. A burner that lights and then dies when the knob is released usually has a weak or misaligned thermocouple. One that clicks without catching has a dirty electrode or a worn switch. The oven thermostat drifts as it ages, so baking runs hot or cool, and gas oven ignition can become hesitant over time.
Some issues are cosmetic but still worth attention. Knobs and trim loosen with use, and the enamel can chip when a heavy pan or utensil strikes it. Humid air and cooking steam can tarnish brass trim faster, so drying the oven after use and polishing the metal with a suitable cleaner helps. We point out any finish care that would help while we are there.
Owners can safely clean burner caps with the stove off and cool, dry them completely and reseat them, and make sure each thermocouple tip is clean and close to the burner. An oven thermometer shows how far the oven has drifted. If you smell gas, leave the home and call the gas utility or 911 from a safe distance. Our technician confirms the exact model before testing anything.
We test thermocouples, igniters, switches, valves and the oven thermostat, and check the door and its seals. Repairs on a CornuFé are usually worthwhile, and parts are often easier to find than for Château ranges, although they still come through La Cornue's channel and may take time. You get the diagnosis, the price and a realistic timeline before work begins.
