About Hotpoint Stove Repair
Natural gas reaches only parts of the Tampa Bay area, so a Hotpoint gas stove is less common here than its electric sibling, though it turns up in plenty of homes. The design is straightforward: sealed burners on top, each with its own spark igniter, all fed by one spark module that clicks every igniter at once when any knob turns to light. Below is a gas oven lit by a glow-bar.
Clicking that will not stop after the flame lights is the most common complaint. Usually a spill has seeped down and soaked a spark switch behind a knob, or a boil-over has left an igniter wet enough to short. Because the module fires all igniters together, one wet switch makes the whole cooktop click. Letting it dry out can fix it; if it does not, we replace the switch or the wiring harness.
A burner that sparks yet never lights has the reverse problem: blocked ports, an off-center cap, or a cracked ceramic igniter throwing its spark somewhere useless. Weak, yellow or ragged flames usually trace to grimy burner heads or a crooked cap; the gas supply is seldom the cause. If no burner sparks at all, the spark module is the likely failure.
Once the cooktop is off and cold, take off the grates, caps and burner heads, scrub them in warm, soapy water using a soft brush, and allow them to dry fully. In humid summer weather, give them extra time before reassembling. Seat each cap flat and centered. If you smell gas, do not touch light switches or the stove; get everyone outside and phone the gas company or 911 from there.
On a service call we look at every burner, test the spark module and each switch, check igniter spacing and wiring, and watch the flame once the fix is in. Gas regulators and supply piping beyond the appliance are outside our scope. Switches, igniters and burner parts cost little, so fixing a Hotpoint gas stove is almost always worth it.
Where Hotpoint Stoves Tend to Fail
- Wet spark switch behind a knob causing nonstop clicking
- Clogged burner ports or off-center caps blocking ignition
- Cracked ceramic igniter sparking to the wrong spot
- Dead spark module leaving every burner silent
