About Dacor Stove Repair
Turn a Dacor burner on, let the flame blow out, and on many models the range sparks again by itself. That automatic reignition is one of the defining features of Dacor's gas surfaces, along with sealed burners ranging from big high-output rings to small simmer burners and knobs that light up while in use. This page covers those burners, whether they sit on a Dacor range or a rangetop.
Reignition also explains the most common complaint. The system watches for flame, and if a cap sits off-center, a burner is dirty or moisture has reached a spark switch, it misreads a good flame as missing and keeps sparking. The ceramic igniters crack as they age or when a heavy grate lands on one. If the shared spark module fails, every burner goes dead or every burner clicks at once.
Start with the parts you can reach. When the surface is cool and the burners are off, take off the grates and caps, then dry the caps and burner heads with a cloth, and put each cap back level and centered. Open plugged ports with an unbent paper clip, since a toothpick can snap off inside. After a boil-over, give the top a day to dry before calling.
Other wear comes on slowly. The gas valves behind the knobs can stiffen, which makes a low simmer hard to set. The small lamps in lit knobs burn out, which is harmless and has nothing to do with ignition or gas safety. A gas smell that hangs around after a burner is off is never a do-it-yourself job: get everyone out and phone the utility or 911.
We check spark at each igniter, test every knob switch, and verify the module and the circuit that senses flame. We also judge the flame itself, because yellow or lifting flames usually mean a port or orifice problem, not ignition. Igniters, switches and modules are mid-priced parts, and replacing them keeps an otherwise sound Dacor cooking for many more years.
Where Dacor Stoves Tend to Fail
- Off-center cap fooling the reignition system into clicking
- Cracked ceramic igniter from age or a dropped grate
- Failed spark module leaving all burners silent or all sparking
- Stiff valve behind the knob making a low simmer hard to set
