About Dacor Microwave Repair
A Dacor microwave is rarely a countertop box. It is usually a microwave drawer under the counter or below a wall oven, or a speed oven that blends microwave and convection heating in an oven-style cabinet. Both are wired in and sized to a specific cutout. Both also keep a lethal charge in the capacitor after the power is cut, so internal testing belongs to a technician.
Drawer models add moving parts. A small motor driving a gear set moves the drawer in and out, and a utensil wedged against the top or years of strain can leave it stalled, partly open or unwilling to move. Crumbs gather in the slides. The interlock switches that confirm the drawer is closed wear out, which keeps the unit from starting or shuts it off partway through a cycle.
If the drawer will not open, do not pull it by hand, because forcing it can strip the gears. Leave the breaker off for sixty seconds, restore it, and look for anything jammed inside. A cup of water heated for a minute shows whether the microwave side still warms. A dead touch panel after a storm outage deserves the same breaker reset before you call.
Inside, the usual high-voltage faults apply: a magnetron that buzzes but produces no heat, a failed diode, or a blown fuse. Speed ovens add a convection element and fan that fail independently, and when the unit is stacked with a wall oven, its controls share that oven's heat. Often one side keeps working while the other fails, so each is diagnosed on its own.
Our technician first bleeds off the capacitor charge, then checks the interlocks, fuse, diode and magnetron, plus the drawer motor, and tests the convection side separately on speed ovens. Built-in microwaves cost far more than countertop ones and fit a set opening, so a motor, switch or magnetron is usually a sensible replacement. A failed board with scarce parts is where we compare options.
Where Dacor Microwaves Tend to Fail
- Drawer motor or gears stalling the drawer partway
- Worn interlock switch keeping the microwave from starting
- Magnetron buzzing without heat or a failed high-voltage diode
- Speed oven convection side failing while the microwave works
