Houses, Apartments & Condos Across the Tampa Bay Area
Frigidaire is a high-volume value brand that has made refrigerators since 1918 and has been owned by the Swedish Electrolux group since 1986. It is especially common in refrigerators, chest and upright freezers and freestanding ranges, with the Gallery and Professional lines sitting above the standard models. We test the inexpensive parts that fail most on Frigidaire first, such as evaporator fans, defrost components, gaskets and oven igniters, before anyone discusses boards or compressors. Because the brand is priced for value, we tell you early if the repair would cost too large a share of a new unit.

Built to a Price, Which Helps the Repair
Frigidaire's history starts in 1918. General Motors owned it for decades, and since 1986 it has belonged to the Swedish Electrolux group. Today it is a high-volume value brand whose catalog spans refrigerators, chest and upright freezers, ranges in freestanding and slide-in styles, dishwashers, microwaves and laundry, with the Gallery and Professional lines adding stainless finishes, convection and air-fry modes.
The engineering is conventional and proven. That works in the owner's favor, because the parts that fail are well known, widely stocked and usually easy to reach. We can usually pin the fault down fast. The flip side is lighter plastic trim, door bins and shelf supports, which are cheap to make and sometimes not worth hunting down on a discontinued model.
Warm Fridge, Cold Freezer
This is the classic Frigidaire refrigerator complaint, and it almost always comes down to air not moving from the freezer into the fresh-food side. Our first suspect is the evaporator fan motor. It often squeals or chirps for weeks before it slows to a stop, and opening the freezer door can make the noise change or quit.
If the fan is fine, we look at the defrost system: the heater, the terminating thermostat and either a mechanical defrost timer on older models or the adaptive defrost logic on the control board of newer ones. When defrost fails, frost slowly packs the evaporator until airflow stops. Both repairs are routine and modestly priced.
Chest and Upright Freezers in a Florida Garage
Frigidaire sells a lot of freezers, and in Tampa a large share of them sit in the garage. A closed garage in July can climb well past 100 degrees, which is beyond the ambient range many standard freezers are rated for. The compressor runs nearly nonstop, the condenser cannot shed heat fast enough, and start components that were marginal give out.
Look for a model marked garage-ready if you are buying, keep the unit off a sun-facing wall, and leave space behind it for air. After a hurricane-season outage, give the freezer a few minutes unplugged before restarting so the compressor is not fighting high pressure. Damp Florida air also hardens door gaskets faster, so check the seal each spring.
Ranges, Dishwashers and Laundry Under the Same Badge
On gas ranges and wall ovens, the bake igniter is the usual failure. It weakens with age, glows without drawing enough current to open the gas valve, and the oven takes far too long to light or never does. Electric models wear out bake and broil elements and the infinite switches that run the surface burners.
On Frigidaire dishwashers, the drain pump, the wash motor and the inlet valve are the usual replacements, and the door gasket on plastic-tub models can start to leak. Front-load washers develop mildew in the door boot if they stay closed between loads. Nearly all of these parts are carried on our van or easy to get quickly.
Where Repair Stops Making Sense
Because a new Frigidaire costs less than a premium brand, replacement starts to win earlier. Fans, igniters, gaskets and defrost parts are nearly always worth replacing. By contrast, a main control board on an older unit, an aging door ice maker, or a sealed-system leak on a basic top-freezer can eat up much of what a new one costs.
Landlords and property managers often ask us to weigh repeat calls against a new unit, and we give that answer straight. A Professional series range, or a French-door model whose compressor still tests strong, usually deserves more repair than an entry-level model, and we price it before any work starts.
