Houses, Apartments & Condos Across the Tampa Bay Area
Everest is a U.S. maker of commercial refrigeration and nothing else: glass-door merchandisers, back-bar coolers, reach-ins, prep tables and undercounter units. It occupies the middle of the market and is popular with independent restaurants, delis, cafes and bars. We test the condenser fan, evaporator fan, defrost circuit and controller one at a time, because each can make an Everest cabinet run warm for a different reason. Before starting, we explain the expected downtime and whether a part has to come through the commercial channel.

Cold Storage Is All Everest Makes
Everest is an American company that builds commercial refrigeration exclusively. The lineup runs from single-door to three-door reach-ins through prep tables, undercounter units and back-bar coolers to the glass-door merchandisers you see at a deli counter. It sits in the middle of the market, chosen by delis, cafes, taquerias and hotel bars that want solid stainless cabinets without top-tier pricing.
These units are designed to run continuously, and that changes what a small fault means. A household fridge with a tired fan may coast for weeks. Give a prep table that same fault and the food in its rail can drift above safe holding temperature before lunch is over, so an accurate answer matters more than a quick guess.
Four Ways a Reach-In Goes Warm
Inside an Everest reach-in, the machine compartment holds a hermetic compressor and a condenser with its own fan, while an evaporator coil and fan move cold air through the box under the direction of a temperature controller. Freezers add a defrost heater, a drain line heater and a termination control. Any one of those parts can leave you with a warm box, each for its own reason.
A failed condenser fan overheats the compressor until it trips. When the evaporator fan quits, the coil gets cold but the air around the food does not. A defrost heater or termination fault lets ice choke the evaporator. A drifting controller probe simply runs the wrong temperature. We measure each one in turn, which is faster in the end than swapping parts.
Gaskets and Hinges: Small Parts, Big Payoff
Reach-in doors open hundreds of times a shift, and the gasket usually fails first at the corners nearest the hinge, where it cracks and goes flat. Through that gap the cabinet inhales warm, humid kitchen air. Frost builds on the evaporator, the compressor runs longer, and the fans and compressor wear faster. Self-closing hinges that sag leave doors resting just short of a full seal, which compounds the problem.
The paper test is a quick check: close a strip of paper in the door at several points and pull. If it slides out freely, the seal is weak there. Gasket and hinge replacement is one of the least expensive repairs on a reach-in and often restores both temperature and run time.
Glass-Door Merchandisers and Sweating Frames
Everest glass-door coolers use heaters in the door frame, and sometimes in the glass, to keep the surfaces above the dew point. In a humid Tampa storefront or near an entrance that opens to the street, a failed heater shows up fast as fog on the outside of the glass and water pooling on the floor. The cabinet may still be holding temperature perfectly well.
Our first checks are the heater circuit and the seal, not the compressor. Condenser coils on back-bar and merchandiser units also collect lint and dust from foot traffic, so keeping the lower grille clear is part of the same visit.
Planning a Repair Around Service Hours
Fans, gaskets, controllers, hinges and coil cleaning can usually be done on site with the unit in place. Defrost repairs and some fan work require emptying the cabinet and letting the evaporator thaw, so we tell you the expected downtime before starting and you can plan product moves around it. If a part needs ordering from a commercial supplier, you hear that up front.
Tampa ProFix handles self-contained Everest units in reachable locations as light commercial work. Remote condensing systems and walk-ins are better served by a dedicated refrigeration contractor. A compressor or sealed-system leak on an older cabinet is where we lay out repair and replacement side by side.
