JennAir is Whirlpool Corporation's premium kitchen brand, born in Indianapolis and credited with introducing the downdraft cooktop. Its current range covers built-in and column refrigerators, wall ovens, pro-style ranges, cooktops and dishwashers, styled in its RISE and NOIR looks. We test JennAir-only assemblies, such as downdraft blowers and column controls, separately from the shared Whirlpool hardware so neither gets blamed for the other's fault. Before quoting, we say whether your part is a widely stocked shared item or a brand-specific piece with a longer wait.

The Brand That Put the Vent in the Cooktop
Louis Jenn started the company in Indianapolis and introduced the downdraft range, which pulls cooking smoke downward through a vent in the counter, with no overhead hood. It later passed to Maytag and joined Whirlpool's premium tier when Whirlpool acquired Maytag.
The current catalog spans built-in and column refrigeration, wine units, wall ovens, ranges, cooktops, dishwashers and microwaves, styled as RISE or NOIR. Much of the inner hardware is common with Whirlpool and KitchenAid.
Finding Out Why a Downdraft Stopped Pulling
A downdraft is a whole system: a blower in the cabinet base, a grease filter at the intake, a damper, and ductwork ending at an exterior cap. Weak draw can start at any point, and a blower wheel crusted with grease is a common, easily overlooked culprit.
We work outward from the intake: filter, switch, motor, damper, then duct and cap. A good number of these complaints end up being ductwork, and a new motor alone would not bring the suction back.
Built-In and Column Refrigeration
Many JennAir built-ins mount the compressor and condenser at the top behind a grille, so that opening has to stay clear. Columns are separate refrigerator and freezer cabinets with independent controls and cooling, and we diagnose them as two appliances side by side.
Board failures and ice maker trouble lead the calls. An ice maker that freezes into a block or stalls often has low water pressure or a partly plugged inlet screen behind it, so we check the supply before condemning the ice maker.
Storms, Humidity and JennAir Electronics in Tampa
Summer lightning and outages are hard on JennAir refrigerator and oven boards. If a unit stays dead after power returns, cycle its breaker briefly before assuming the worst. A surge protector lowers the risk without removing it. If storm water reached the kitchen, keep the appliances off until they are inspected.
Tampa's humid air also gets into downdraft duct runs, where moisture mixes with grease, and the exterior cap can jam or clog with debris. Near the bay, salt air rusts those caps faster, so we confirm the flap still swings freely.
Shared Parts, Exclusive Parts and the Cost Question
JennAir dishwashers and ovens fail much like their Whirlpool cousins: dirty filters, debris in the drain pump, tired inlet valves, and sensors, igniters or elements that leave an oven running cool. Burners that click without lighting usually have damp electrodes or a cap sitting crooked.
Whirlpool-shared parts are typically easy to get; JennAir-only trim, panels and some controls take longer and mean a return trip. Repair usually wins since the cabinets are cut to fit, except on older units facing sealed-system failure or discontinued controls, where we will say so.
