Houses, Apartments & Condos Across the Tampa Bay Area
Fisher & Paykel is a New Zealand-born premium brand, owned by Haier since 2012, with a habit of original engineering. Its best-known designs are the DishDrawer dishwasher and the SmartDrive belt-free washer motor, and it also builds ActiveSmart and integrated refrigeration, ovens, ranges and cooktops. Many Fisher & Paykel designs depart from the usual layouts, so we diagnose DishDrawers, direct-drive laundry and adaptive refrigeration according to how each was engineered. Parts typically come from specialist suppliers, and we share the likely lead time before any order goes in.

A Maker That Does Things Its Own Way
This premium brand grew out of New Zealand and earned a name for original engineering; Haier has owned it since 2012. Today it makes DishDrawers, ActiveSmart and integrated refrigeration, wall ovens, ranges, cooktops and laundry.
Owners often chose it for design, and many units are panel-ready and mounted flush. A proper repair respects that: panels protected, reveals kept even, and the unit left aligned the way the installer set it.
Inside a DishDrawer
Every DishDrawer is a full dishwasher in miniature, with its own tub, a combined motor-pump and a lid that drops down to close the tub during the wash. Wiring and a hose ride in and out with the drawer. In a double, the two drawers are separate machines, which is why one may quit while its partner keeps washing.
Leaks usually trace to an aged, stiff lid seal or a drawer left slightly open. A drawer whose display lights but never washes may have a lid stuck up, or a motor fault. Constant opening flexes the harness and hose, so we inspect them every time.
Direct-Drive Laundry Without Belts
The company was an early leader with SmartDrive, a direct-drive motor that turns the basket with no belt or transmission and uses sensors to track rotor position. Fewer moving parts wear out, but electronics now do the job a gearbox once did.
A failed position sensor can make the spin harsh, loud or stop entirely, which can pass for a mechanical fault. On top-loaders, a lid lock that never reports closed will also block the spin. We read the machine's stored fault history before testing parts.
ActiveSmart, Integrated Columns and Ovens
ActiveSmart fridges learn door-opening habits and adjust cooling and defrost to match. Their usual faults are fans, temperature sensors and defrost parts. Integrated columns add hinge wear; a door sitting slightly crooked lets humid air past the seal, showing up as frost or sweating.
On wall ovens, convection fans, sensors and door locks lead the list, especially after hot self-clean cycles. If a DishDrawer seal has been venting steam for months, we check nearby cabinet panels too, since long exposure can swell wood.
Specialist Parts and Panel-Ready Economics
Most parts can be had, but they generally come from specialist suppliers and arrive slower than mass-market parts, so a second visit is common. We confirm the part and its timing before quoting. On a newer unit, ask the manufacturer about coverage first.
Repair is usually the better value, because swapping an integrated fridge or DishDrawer can involve new panels, a different cutout or carpentry. If a part is discontinued with no workable substitute, you hear that before any work begins.
