About Fisher & Paykel Dishwasher Repair
The DishDrawer works nothing like an ordinary dishwasher. Each drawer is a full machine: a pull-out tub, a combined motor and pump in the base, a filter, and a lid that drops onto the tub to seal it while washing. A flexible harness and hose ride along as the drawer slides, carrying power, signals and water. In a double DishDrawer, top and bottom share a cabinet but not a motor or control.
Leaks are usually about that lid. The seal around it hardens with age and heat, and once it loses its give, water and steam escape at the rim. A drawer that does not close fully, or dishes that stop the lid from lowering, cause the same symptom. If the drawer powers up but will not start, the lid mechanism is a prime suspect, followed by the motor and the control board.
The moving harness brings a fault you will not see on a regular dishwasher. As it flexes thousands of times, a conductor can crack inside the insulation, causing errors that come and go depending on how the drawer is positioned. Poor cleaning usually comes from a blocked filter or spray arm. Slow fills on a private well, common out toward Lutz and Odessa, can mean sediment in the inlet screen.
Owners can clean the filter in the bottom of the tub, check that the spray arm spins freely, and make sure no tall item keeps the lid from coming down. Look for water under the drawer or in the cabinet below it. Turn the breaker off before going beyond the filter. Fisher & Paykel also makes conventional built-in dishwashers, which follow a more familiar layout.
We test the lid mechanism, motor and pump, inlet valve, harness and control, diagnosing each drawer as its own machine and protecting the surrounding cabinetry. Seals, filters, valves and harnesses are fair repairs. A motor or control can cost more, yet because a DishDrawer is built into the cabinets, repairing it is often still the better value than a replacement.
Where Fisher & Paykel Dishwashers Tend to Fail
- Hardened lid seal letting water and steam escape the drawer
- Lid mechanism not lowering, drawer powers up but will not wash
- Flexing harness cracked inside, errors coming and going
- Combined motor and pump fault stopping the wash in one drawer
