About LG Dishwasher Repair

An LG dishwasher watches its own fill time, drain time and leak tray, and it stops and posts a code when any of them is off. OE is a drain that did not finish, IE a fill that took too long, and AE (E1 on some models) means the float in the base pan has lifted because water reached it. Those codes are good starting points, not final answers, and each has a short list of usual causes.

Inside, the wash pump is driven by an inverter direct-drive motor, and QuadWash models add spray arms that rotate in more than one direction to reach corners. Some versions include a TrueSteam generator. The fine filter sits under the lower spray arm and catches the food particles that would otherwise recirculate, which makes it the part with the biggest effect on how clean dishes come out.

Gritty glasses and food left on plates usually trace to that filter, to spray arm nozzles plugged with debris, or to a wash motor losing strength. Mineral scale is a frequent contributor across the Tampa Bay area: it narrows nozzle holes and coats the inlet valve screen, slowing the fill until IE appears. On a private well, iron and sediment can do the same job faster.

Kill power at the breaker, lift out the lower rack, twist the filter assembly free and rinse it under warm water with a soft brush. Pop off the spray arms and clear each nozzle with a toothpick. Under the sink, make sure the drain hose rises in a high loop and is not crushed. If AE came up after someone used regular dish soap, the suds alone can lift the float.

On site we read the code, dry the base pan if the leak sensor tripped and trace where the water came from. We test the drain pump, inlet valve, wash motor, heater and steam generator if fitted, and check the door latch and gasket. Most LG dishwasher faults are worth fixing; a board or wash motor on an older, entry-level model can come close to the price of a new one.

Where LG Dishwashers Tend to Fail

  • Fine filter packed with debris, OE drain code and gritty glasses
  • Scaled inlet screen or failing inlet valve causing IE fill errors
  • Water in the base pan lifting the leak float, AE and cycle stopped
  • Inverter wash motor weakening, QuadWash arms barely turning
