About LG Dryer Repair
People are often surprised that LG dryers have a belt. Direct drive belongs to LG washers; the dryers use a conventional drum belt, an idler pulley, rear rollers and a front bearing or glides, with one motor turning both the drum and the blower wheel. Electric models heat with an element, gas models with an igniter, flame sensor and valve coils, and some newer units use a heat pump.
Many LG dryers also run Flow Sense, which monitors exhaust restriction and posts d80, d90 or d95 as the blockage worsens. Those warnings deserve attention. A restricted vent keeps hot air in the cabinet, stretches cycles and eventually opens the thermal fuse or high-limit thermostat. Long vent runs out of a Tampa garage or through an interior wall also collect condensation that turns lint into a sticky plug.
Heat faults outside the vent come down to a few parts. An open or shorted thermistor appears as tE1 or tE2. Electric elements burn open, and on gas models the igniter weakens until it glows without lighting the burner. The mechanical side announces itself by sound: a squeal from a dry idler, a rhythmic thump from flat-spotted rollers, or a motor that hums over a still drum after the belt snaps.
Clean the lint screen, then pull the dryer out with it unplugged and look inside the transition duct. Run it and step outside to see whether the exterior hood flap opens; close to the bay, salt air can corrode hood hinges until they stick. On electric models confirm both breaker legs are on. If a gas dryer smells of gas, leave the house and call the gas company from outside.
Our test sequence covers vent static pressure, the thermistor, thermal fuse and high-limit, element resistance or igniter current, and the belt, idler and rollers as a set, since they wear together. LG dryer repairs are usually straightforward and good value, and even a main control board is normally worth replacing on a dryer that is less than ten years old.
Where LG Dryers Tend to Fail
- Restricted exhaust setting off d80, d90 or d95 Flow Sense warnings
- Thermistor open or shorted, tE1 or tE2 on the display
- Burned element, weak gas igniter or blown thermal fuse, drum tumbling cold
- Squealing idler, thumping rollers or broken drum belt
