Newer two-story homes along SR 54 and US 41 often put the laundry upstairs or in the middle of the house, so the vent climbs through the attic or ends at a roof cap. Older ranch homes on big lots have their own long, crooked runs. Each foot and elbow cuts airflow, humid summer air condenses in the duct, and lint sticks to the damp walls. Clean the lint screen and its slot, run the dryer and feel for a strong stream at the outside hood. A weak puff points to the duct. If the drum turns but stays cold, an electric model may have an open element or fuse, while gas and propane dryers have an igniter, valve coils and a flame sensor to test. The technician checks each, then tells you what failed and what the repair costs before any work.
