About Miele Dryer Repair
Slow drying is the complaint we hear about Miele dryers far more than any other, and it almost always comes back to lint. Nearly every Miele dryer sold here is a 24-inch heat-pump model. It does not blow hot air outside. It recirculates air through a heat pump that pulls moisture out and sends it to a container or a drain hose, so any lint that slips past the filters ends up coating the heat exchanger.
There are two places lint is caught: filters in the door opening and a spongy plinth filter behind a flap near the floor. When the plinth filter or the heat exchanger behind it is matted, the heat pump cannot strip moisture from the air, and cycles stretch out or end with damp clothes. Messages telling you to empty the water container or clean the filters are common for the same reason.
Less often the fault is mechanical or electrical: a fan that has stopped, a broken drum belt, a drain pump that fails on units plumbed to a drain, a humidity or temperature sensor that misreads, or a control module issue. In a Tampa summer a garage laundry adds heat and moisture to the incoming air, and heat-pump drying is slower than vented drying to begin with, so some extra time is normal.
With the power off, clean the door filters, rinse the plinth filter under the tap and let it dry fully, and look into the heat exchanger area for a lint mat. Empty the water container or straighten a kinked drain hose. Never run the dryer without its filters in place. When we come out, we test the fans, compressor operation, sensors and drain pump, inspect the heat exchanger, and read the fault history.
Because these dryers need no outside vent, they fit closets and upstairs laundry rooms where a vented dryer would be awkward, and that makes keeping one running worth the effort. Filters, fans, pumps, belts and sensors are routine repairs. A fault inside the sealed heat-pump circuit is a larger job, and we will tell you plainly whether it is worth fixing on your machine.
Where Miele Dryers Tend to Fail
- Matted plinth filter or heat exchanger stretching drying times
- Container or drain pump faults interrupting the cycle
- Fan motor or drum belt failure on older heat-pump dryers
- Humidity sensor misreading and ending cycles with damp loads
