About Miele Dishwasher Repair
Built into the base of every Miele dishwasher is a tray with a float switch. If water reaches that tray, the machine refuses to fill, runs its drain pump and shows a fault. Owners see a dishwasher that hums and drains endlessly or will not start at all, and assume the worst. Usually the cause is modest: a loose hose, a worn seal, a cracked part, or suds from using the wrong detergent.
The rest of the design explains the other common calls. Miele dishwashers include a water softener that needs reactivation salt, a filter combination in the tub floor, a drain pump below it, a circulation pump with a heater, and on many models automatic detergent dosing and a third-level cutlery tray. Integrated models often open with a knock on the panel or a push on the door.
Most of the complaints that follow come from those parts being neglected or worn. A filter left uncleaned leads to poor washing and drain faults. Broken glass or food in the pump area stops drainage outright. When the salt reservoir runs empty, dishes come out with a white film, which hard water in many Tampa homes makes obvious within days. Homes on private wells can also find sediment clogging the inlet screen.
Our visit starts with the fault message, then a search for where the water in the base tray came from, checking hoses, seals and valves. We dry and reset the base, then test the drain pump, heater and circulation pump. On panel-ready models we check the door hinge springs too, since a heavy wood panel wears them. Owners can help beforehand by cleaning the filter and topping up salt and rinse aid.
If yours is draining nonstop, turn off its circuit and the water supply until it is looked at. Miele dishwashers are built to last many years, so pumps, seals, valves, heaters and hinge springs are almost always worth replacing, and electronic faults on older units are often still reasonable to repair. The deciding factor is usually the tub and frame, which rarely fail.
Where Miele Dishwashers Tend to Fail
- Leak protection float tripped by a hose, seal or suds in the base
- Glass or food under the filter blocking the drain pump
- Empty softener salt reservoir leaving white film on glassware
- Hinge springs wearing out under heavy custom door panels
