About Samsung Dishwasher Repair

Few things confuse Samsung dishwasher owners more than a machine that halts mid-cycle and flashes LC or a blinking light, with no puddle in sight. That is the leak detector under the tub at work. A float rises when water gathers in the pan beneath the machine and the control shuts everything down, so even a slow drip from a gasket, or a burst of suds from hand dish soap, can stop the whole cycle.

Samsung also built some ideas of its own into the wash system. WaterWall models drop the lower spray arm in favor of a fixed jet that fires at a reflector bar, and the bar rides on a rail across the rear of the wash chamber. StormWash units add a rotating jet zone. When the WaterWall bar jams on debris or its small drive motor fails, the top rack comes out clean while dishes below stay filmy.

Ordinary drain trouble sits close behind. A cylindrical filter under the bottom rack loads up with food, or the drain hose kinks behind the cabinet, and water stands in the tub after the cycle. If a disposer was installed recently, the knockout plug in its inlet may never have been removed. Mineral scale from hard water can also narrow the WaterWall jets over time.

Before calling, switch the dishwasher off at its breaker, pull the bottom rack, and twist out the filter to rinse it and clear the sump. Check under the sink for a kinked hose. On our visit we drain and dry the pan, then run a cycle with the lower front panel removed so the leak shows itself, and check the pump, wash motor, heating element and fill valve.

We also look at the door hinges and their cables, which wear on certain Samsung models until the door slams down when released. Pumps, valves, seals, sensors and hinge sets are all worth fixing. The one case where replacement competes closely is a control board failure on an older entry-level model, and we will say so if yours falls there.

Where Samsung Dishwashers Tend to Fail

  • Leak-detector float lifted by foam or a slow gasket drip, LC code
  • WaterWall reflector bar jammed on its rail, lower rack still dirty
  • Clogged filter or drain pump leaving standing water in the tub
  • Worn door hinge springs or cables letting the door drop open
