About Thor Dishwasher Repair
Closed, a Thor dishwasher shows nothing but stainless. Its buttons live along the upper lip of the door, the tub is stainless, and many models add a third rack for utensils, with panel-ready versions taking a custom front. Inside it follows a modern European layout: one pump to wash, another to drain, a filter you remove by hand from the tub floor and a latch switch that reports when the door is shut.
That control placement creates a fault worth knowing about. When the door seal wears, steam escapes upward along the edge and over time can reach the board, so buttons go dead or the machine skips and restarts cycles. A tired seal, or a unit not leveled during the remodel, also puts water on the floor at the door, so replacing a seal early can prevent a costlier board repair later.
Water left in the tub after the cycle ends is the most frequent call. The manual filter traps food, labels and glass, and whatever slips past it can jam the drain pump impeller. Unscrew the filter and run it under the tap. Check the drain hose behind the unit for kinks, and if a disposal went in recently, make sure its knockout plug was punched out.
Tampa water commonly leaves white scale on glasses and spray arms, and homes on private wells may also find sediment clogging the inlet valve screen, which looks like slow filling or weak washing. When the buttons stop responding, a one-minute breaker reset is the first move, since a latch that fails to register can pass for a failed control board.
We test the pump, fill valve, latch, the float in the base pan, the heater and the temperature sensor, and pull the toe kick to watch for leaks during a running cycle. Pumps, latches, valves and seals are worthwhile repairs, and a board is often reasonable too. A leaking tub or several major failures on an older Thor usually point to replacement.
Where Thor Dishwashers Tend to Fail
- Glass or label scraps jamming the drain pump impeller
- Worn door seal letting steam reach the top-edge controls
- Latch switch not registering, so no cycle will start
- Inlet valve screen clogged by scale or well sediment
