About Thor Range Repair
Thor sells its pro-style range shell in several forms: dual-fuel with gas burners over an electric convection oven, all-electric, and induction. This page centers on the dual-fuel version, which needs a gas connection plus its own 240-volt line. Its two halves fail independently, so a perfect cooktop over a dead oven, or the reverse, is common and not much of a mystery.
The oven half fails the way any electric wall oven does. Elements burn out, the convection element or its fan motor quits, the probe drifts, and the board or one of its relays stops feeding power to a part. Lightning season is hard on those boards. The gas half brings endless clicking, electrodes that will not fire and burners that light with a ragged flame.
Notice which half misbehaves before you call. Burners fine but oven cold: reset the two-pole breaker, because one tripped side can leave the clock running and the elements dead. Oven fine but no spark on top: confirm the range has power and the caps are seated. Cut power before cleaning around igniters, and treat any gas smell as a reason to leave and call the utility.
Induction models trade igniters for power boards, coils and cooling fans, so their diagnosis is all about electronics. A zone that ignores a pan, an overheat shutdown or a dead section after a surge each lead to different parts. Before you approve anything, we tell you which part failed and how long it is likely to take to get here.
For a dual-fuel Thor we check the elements, fan, probe and board output in every mode, then the module, knob switches and electrodes on top, and finally the gas and electrical hookups, since a bad installation can look like a bad part. Most of these repairs are worthwhile. Replacement only makes sense on an older range that has several failures or a damaged oven cavity.
Where Thor Ranges Tend to Fail
- Oven elements burned out while the gas burners still light
- Convection fan or ring element quitting in the electric oven
- Surge-damaged board relay cutting power to the oven
- Spark module or electrodes not firing on the gas top
