About Bosch Range Repair
Bosch ranges are mostly slide-ins: they fit between cabinets with the cooktop overlapping the counter edge and the controls up front instead of on a raised back panel. Bosch offers them in gas, dual-fuel, induction and electric smoothtop versions, each with a European-style convection oven below. Putting the controls up front looks clean, but it puts electronics close to steam, spills and oven heat.
Which version you own changes the likely fault. On gas and dual-fuel ovens the hot-surface igniter weakens over the years, and since the gas valve only opens once the igniter draws enough current, the oven lights later and later until it does not light at all. Induction ranges depend on a cooling fan and power boards under the cooktop, so a clogged fan intake or a power surge can drop a zone and throw an error.
Some faults cross every version. The oven temperature sensor, the convection fan motor and the bake element carry most of the wear, and front-mounted control panels take a beating from boil-overs and the steam that rolls off a stockpot. A control that beeps, ignores presses or shows an error right after a spill may simply need to dry out, or may have a damaged keypad.
Check the breaker, open the gas valve behind a gas or dual-fuel range, and confirm nobody switched on the control lock. On induction, use pans a magnet sticks to. If you smell gas, leave and call from outside. On a visit we measure igniter current, test the induction boards and fan, and check the sensor and elements. Slide-ins sometimes need to come out for rear access, and we protect the counter edge and floor.
Spending on an igniter, sensor or fan is sensible on a Bosch slide-in. A power board for the induction side costs more, yet it is usually justified on a range only a few years old, partly because a replacement slide-in has to fit the same counter gap and cabinet layout. We give you the price before ordering, and on an older range with several failures we will say plainly if it is time to replace it.
Where Bosch Ranges Tend to Fail
- Weak hot-surface igniter delaying or stopping gas oven ignition
- Induction zones dropping out from a failed board or cooling fan
- Oven sensor, convection fan or bake element worn on slide-ins
- Front control panel damaged by spills or stockpot steam
