About Fisher & Paykel Range Repair
Fisher & Paykel's electric ranges are mostly induction, in freestanding and slide-in styles, with some radiant glass models as well. An induction range is two demanding systems sharing one 240-volt supply: a cooktop of coils and power boards that pull heavy current, and a convection oven with its own elements, fans, sensor and control. A cooling fan protects the electronics on both halves.
The first job is working out which half is at fault and whether they share a cause. If the display is blank and the cooktop is dead as well, the problem is usually upstream, at the supply, terminal block or main control. If one zone fails while the others work, its coil or the power board feeding it is the likely suspect. Zones that heat for a minute and then shut off suggest the electronics are overheating.
Lightning and surges are a genuine concern for induction power boards, and Tampa's summer storm season gives them plenty of chances. After a storm, reset the range breaker fully off and back on, then note whether anything lights up. A whole-house surge device and unplugging during long outages help, though no protector stops every surge. We look closely for burned traces or swollen components on the boards.
Other checks are quick. Hold a magnet to your pan; if it does not stick, the zone will not heat it. Try a different pan on the suspect zone. Keep the space under a slide-in clear so the fan can breathe. For the oven, note which functions fail, because an oven that bakes but will not convect points to the convection fan or its element rather than the control.
We measure supply voltage at the terminal block, then test coils, power boards, fans, oven elements, the sensor and the control. Parts availability is confirmed before quoting. Elements, fans and sensors are fair repairs, and on a premium range even a power board is usually worth replacing. If several boards have failed on an older range, we help you weigh the repair against a new one.
Where Fisher & Paykel Ranges Tend to Fail
- Power board failure leaving one induction zone dead
- Cooling fan weak, zones heating briefly then shutting off
- Main control or boards damaged by a summer storm surge
- Convection fan or oven element failed in certain modes
