About Fisher & Paykel Cooktop Repair
Fisher & Paykel cooktops are really two products. The gas models use sealed burners, many of them dual-flow, with separate inner and outer rings so one burner can hold a gentle simmer or run wide open. The induction models put copper coils under the glass and heat magnetic cookware directly, driven by power boards, a touch or dial interface and a fan that keeps the electronics cool.
On a dual-flow burner, the familiar complaint is that the inner ring lights and the outer ring does not, or the flame is patchy around the circle. Clogged outer ports or a ring that is not seated squarely are the usual reasons. A burner that clicks without lighting has a crusted igniter, and clicking that will not stop means a spill has wet a switch. Remove both rings, clean, dry fully and reseat them.
Induction faults look different. A zone that blinks and refuses to heat may simply not recognize the pan; hold a magnet to the base to check. A light hum at high power is normal. A cooktop that cuts out partway through cooking usually has a fan problem or a blocked air gap underneath, and island or drawer installations are especially prone to that. A zone that stays dead points to its coil or power board.
Look under the cabinet, if you can reach it, for stored items blocking the fan intake. Wipe the glass dry before touching the controls. Outages and surges during summer storms can upset induction electronics, so if the top went blank after one, reset the breaker before calling. If you ever smell gas from a gas model, get everyone outside before calling the gas utility or 911.
For induction we test coils, power boards, the fan and the interface, and check that the installation lets the unit breathe. For gas we test igniters, the spark module, switches and any flame-safety parts. Fans, igniters, switches and sensors are fair repairs. A cracked glass top or failed power board costs more, but a new cooktop must fit the existing cutout, so repair usually stays the sensible choice.
Where Fisher & Paykel Cooktops Tend to Fail
- Outer ring ports clogged on a dual-flow gas burner
- Induction cooling fan failed, zones shutting off mid-cook
- Coil or power board fault leaving one induction zone dead
- Air gap blocked beneath an island or drawer installation
