About DCS Cooktop Repair
Constant clicking is the signature DCS cooktop complaint, and it comes from a feature: automatic reignition. Each burner has an electrode, and the spark module watches for flame. If it cannot sense flame, it keeps sparking to relight. Moisture from a boilover or cleaning, grease on the electrode, a cracked ceramic insulator or a misaligned cap can all blind it, so it clicks on and on.
DCS cooktops and rangetops are built-in gas surfaces with heavy grates and sealed burners. Rangetops often add a griddle or grill section with its own burner and thermostat. Because the unit is fixed in the counter, service happens from above or from the cabinet underneath, which is worth knowing if that cabinet is full. Many replacement parts now come through the Fisher & Paykel service network.
A burner that will not light may have a clogged port, a bad electrode or a failed module. Weak or yellow flames come from blocked ports or a cap not seated properly. A griddle that heats unevenly points to its thermostat or burner. When several burners show the same symptom at once, look for a shared cause, such as the spark module or a wet wiring harness, before replacing parts burner by burner.
If there is any gas odor, leave and call the gas utility or 911 from outside. Otherwise, once the cooktop is cool, remove the caps and heads, clean them with a soft brush and warm water, dry them completely and reseat them. Skip needles or pins in the ports, since enlarging a port changes the flame. In humid weather, parts washed in the evening may need until morning to dry fully.
We test electrodes, spark modules, wiring, burner valves and griddle thermostats, check the flame pattern and confirm gas pressure is reaching the burners. Any leak or regulator work is done with the supply off. These repairs are generally worth doing, because a replacement would have to fit the same counter cutout, and we check parts availability before quoting.
