About Electrolux Cooktop Repair
Induction is the cooktop Electrolux is best known for, though the brand also builds radiant smoothtops and sealed gas models with spark ignition. Each type fails in its own way, so the first question on any call is which one is set into your counter. An induction top is mostly electronics: power boards, coils, temperature sensors under the glass, cooling fans and a touch strip.
Before blaming an induction zone, test the pan with a magnet. If it does not stick firmly to the bottom, the zone will not detect it or heat it. When the cookware checks out, a zone that ignores pans, an error indicator or a sudden shutdown mid-cook usually traces to a coil, a sensor, a section of the power board, or a cooling fan that has stopped and let the electronics overheat.
Gas Electrolux cooktops use a single spark module, so turning any knob sparks every igniter at once. After a boilover, moisture around an igniter or switch can keep it clicking with the knob off, and a cracked or wet igniter leaves a burner unlit. Radiant smoothtops are simpler: elements burn out and the infinite switches that set heat levels wear. Crooked burner caps also cause lighting trouble.
We check supply voltage first, then test zones and boards individually, measure element resistance, and confirm the cooling fan runs. On gas tops we test the spark module, each igniter and switch, and check burner alignment. Wiping water off the touch area, letting a wet burner dry and reseating caps flat are fair things to try first. If you smell gas, leave and call the gas utility.
Induction power boards are the most expensive common part here, yet they usually still cost less than a new cooktop, especially when a replacement would not match the existing countertop cutout. Cracked glass is the harder call, because the top itself is expensive to source. Ignition parts, elements and switches on the gas and radiant models are routine and worth fixing.
Where Electrolux Cooktops Tend to Fail
- Induction zone not detecting cookware from a coil or board fault
- Cooling fan failure triggering induction shutdowns and errors
- Gas igniters clicking nonstop after a spill or boilover
- Radiant element or infinite switch failing on smoothtop models
