Cooktop repair for built-in surfaces in north Pinellas kitchens
A cooktop is the stand-alone cooking surface set into a counter or island, with no oven underneath. Remodeled Largo kitchens and newer East Lake homes have plenty of them, in radiant glass, gas and induction. We cover 11 ZIP codes in Largo, Dunedin & Palm Harbor.

(813) 412-5186How each type of cooktop fails
Radiant glass tops lose elements, infinite switches and hot-surface indicator lights. A burner that stays on high or will not heat usually points to a switch or the element. Gas cooktops click without lighting when the spark electrode is wet from a boil-over or the spark module is weak. Induction tops shut off with error codes when their cooling fans clog or the power board fails, and they only work with pans a magnet sticks to. Island cooktops add another wrinkle, since the downdraft vent and wiring sit in the cabinet below and can be cramped to reach.
Safe check: on gas, lift off the burner caps, dry them and the electrodes completely, and set the caps back level. On glass, try a different pan and a different burner to narrow the fault. Never use a cracked glass top; switch off its breaker.
Reaching the parts
Most cooktops lift from the counter once their hold-down clips are released, and the technician protects the stone or laminate around the opening. If you can find the model label under the cooktop or inside the cabinet, have the number ready. The diagnosis and the cost come before any part is ordered or installed.
Before You Book: Cooktop Checks
Safe first steps for the most urgent cooktop problems, and when to leave it to a technician.
- Gas SmellSafety
- Do not look for the source. Get out of the house without operating any switch or appliance, and phone the gas utility or 911 after you are outside.
- Gas Valve FailureSafety
- Never open up or oil a gas valve yourself. If the cooktop's shutoff valve is safe to get to, close it, then call us.
- Burner Won't Turn OffSafety
- Cut power at the breaker on an electric cooktop, or close the gas shutoff valve on a gas model if it is safe to get to; keep the cooktop out of use until it is repaired.
- Gas Smell Without FlameSafety
- Turn the knob off only if it is within easy reach, and do not relight anything or operate switches. A strong or persistent odor means getting out of the house and phoning the gas utility or 911 once you are outside.
