About Miele Cooktop Repair
Miele makes its cooktops in three forms. Induction models often have PowerFlex zones that bridge into one large area for griddles and roasters, and some can talk to a matching Miele hood. Gas cooktops have sealed burners with electronic ignition and automatic re-ignition, which relights a burner if its flame goes out. CombiSet modules let owners line up induction, gas, teppanyaki and grill sections in one counter run.
On the induction side, a zone that will not recognize a pan, an error symbol, a cooling fan that has quit, or touch controls that stop responding usually lead back to a power module, an induction coil or a sensor. Heat is the enemy of those electronics. A cooktop mounted above a wall oven, or over a drawer with no room for air, tends to see more cooling faults. Lightning-season surges are another stress.
Gas Miele cooktops fail differently. Constant clicking after a boil-over usually means moisture or residue on an igniter or in the re-ignition path. A burner that will not stay lit can be a fouled flame sensing system, and a dead spark module silences ignition entirely. Cracked glass on an induction top is its own problem: it cannot be patched, and the surface has to be replaced as a part.
Before you call, turn off the breaker for induction, or make sure every gas knob is off. Check that the pan is induction-rated and centered, and wipe spills off the controls. On gas, reseat the caps and make sure igniter tips are clean and dry. If you smell gas, leave without flipping switches and call the gas utility from outside. We check supply voltage, modules, coils, fans and ignition parts.
Because each CombiSet module is separate, we can diagnose and repair just the failed section rather than the whole run. Power modules and ignition parts are worth repairing on most Miele cooktops, though some parts have a lead time, which you will hear about before ordering. A cracked induction glass is a bigger decision, and we weigh that cost against the age and condition of the unit with you.
Where Miele Cooktops Tend to Fail
- Induction power module failure knocking out a PowerFlex zone
- Cooling fan fault causing induction overheating shutdowns
- Re-ignition clicking from wet or fouled gas igniters
- Touch controls unresponsive after spills or power surges
