Radiant glass cooktops heat with ribbon elements under the glass, each run by an infinite switch or touch board. One dead zone usually means an element, switch or limiter; a whole surface gone dark points to the control or its power supply. Induction units fail at the power board or cooling fan. A touch cooktop that ignores every press may simply be in lock mode, so check the manual. On gas, make sure each burner cap sits flat and the ports are dry. Clean spills only after the glass cools, using a scraper rather than abrasive pads.
