About Fisher & Paykel Oven Repair
A fan that keeps blowing after a Fisher & Paykel wall oven is switched off worries a lot of owners, yet it is doing its job. These built-in ovens use a tangential cooling fan to push air out above or below the door and keep the surrounding cabinet from overheating. The real trouble is when that fan stops: the control can sense the heat and shut the oven down partway through a meal.
Fisher & Paykel wall ovens are often stacked as a double or paired with a steam or speed oven in a tall cabinet. Most offer a long list of functions that switch between the bake element, the broil element and a ring element behind a rear convection fan, all managed by an electronic control reading a sensor. Many clean pyrolytically, running far hotter than cooking temperature behind a motorized lock.
Before calling, write down which functions heat and which do not. An oven that bakes but will not broil, or cooks unevenly only in convection modes, points us to one element or the convection fan, which can also grind as its bearings wear. Use an oven thermometer to compare the actual temperature with the setting. Turn off the breaker before reaching inside.
After a pyrolytic clean, let the cavity cool completely before expecting the door to release. If it stays locked once cool, the lock motor or its switch has probably failed; pulling the handle can bend the latch. Oven lights and the food probe socket are smaller failures we also see. Since these ovens are built in, storm-related outages that trip the control are often cleared by resetting the breaker.
We test each element, both fans, the sensor, lock and control, and inspect terminals at the back, where repeated high-heat cycles loosen connections. Sliding a built-in oven forward takes care, and we protect the cabinet face and trim. Elements, fans, sensors and locks are fair repairs, and even a control board is often worth it, since a new oven may not match the cutout or its neighbor.
Where Fisher & Paykel Ovens Tend to Fail
- Tangential cooling fan stopped, oven shutting itself down
- Rear convection fan grinding, convection modes cooking unevenly
- Motorized lock stuck closed after a pyrolytic cleaning cycle
- Broil or ring element open, some functions not heating
