About Frigidaire Oven Repair

Frigidaire ovens reach us in two forms: the oven section of a freestanding or slide-in range, which is the majority, and wall ovens from the Gallery and Professional lines. Gas versions light the bake burner with a hot-surface igniter that also controls the safety valve. Electric versions heat with separate bake and broil elements. Newer models add convection, air fry and steam clean, run by an electronic board and sensor.

On gas models the bake igniter fails far more than anything else, and it fails in a confusing way. The igniter still glows orange, so it looks healthy, but its current draw has dropped below what the valve needs to open. The oven then lights late, lights with a loud whoomp, or never lights at all. A meter on the circuit answers the question in a few minutes.

On electric models, a bake or broil element burns out, frequently showing a blister or split. Sensors drift and push the oven hot or cold, which owners notice as slow preheats or burned bottoms. Air fry modes lean hard on the convection fan, so a fan that grinds deserves attention early. Control boards and touch panels are vulnerable to surges, and summer lightning in Tampa gives them plenty of chances.

Our diagnosis covers igniter amperage plus a valve test on gas ovens, element and sensor resistance on electric ones, and the control and convection fan on any model that has them. We check calibration against our own thermometer rather than the display. Wall ovens sometimes have to slide partway out of the cabinet so we can reach the wiring at the back of the cavity.

Please do not run a self-clean cycle to troubleshoot a heating problem, since that extreme heat can finish off a weak part. Igniters, elements and sensors cost little and are almost always worth replacing. The main judgment call is a control board on an older basic range, and we will tell you when the repair nears the price of a new range. If you ever smell gas, leave the house and call from outside.

Where Frigidaire Ovens Tend to Fail

  • Gas bake igniter glowing but drawing too little current to open the valve
  • Bake or broil element blistered or split on electric models
  • Temperature sensor drift causing slow preheats or uneven baking
  • Convection fan wearing on air fry models; boards hit by storm surges
