About Frigidaire Dryer Repair
Black streaks on a white shirt are one of the most Frigidaire-specific dryer symptoms we see. On many models the front of the drum rides on plastic or felt glides rather than rollers, and as those glides wear thin, the drum drops and rubs the front bulkhead. That contact marks clothes and usually comes with a scraping or squeaking sound while the drum turns.
The rest of the machine is conventional. A motor turns the drum through a belt held taut by an idler pulley, and the rear of the drum sits on rollers or a bearing. Electric models heat with an element guarded by thermostats and a thermal fuse. Gas models use an igniter, a flame sensor and coils on the gas valve. The same design sits in the upper half of Frigidaire laundry centers.
Most heat failures come back to airflow. A crushed transition hose or a vent packed with lint traps heat inside the cabinet, and the thermal fuse opens to protect the dryer. Replace the fuse without clearing the vent and it blows again. Gas models add weak igniters and tired valve coils, which can light the burner for a while and then leave the dryer tumbling cold partway through a load.
Garage laundry is common around Tampa, and long vent runs through a wall or roof collect damp lint faster when the air is humid. So our diagnosis begins with airflow at the outside hood. From there we test the element or the igniter and valve coils, the thermostats and fuse, and then check the belt, idler, rollers and glides once the drum is exposed.
Glides, rollers, belts, fuses and heat parts are inexpensive on a Frigidaire dryer, and since the drum is already open, worn glides are easy to replace alongside another repair. A dead motor or control board on an old machine is a closer call, and we give you a straight recommendation. Laundry center dryers ride on top of the washer in a shared frame, so we plan access first.
Where Frigidaire Dryers Tend to Fail
- Worn front drum glides causing scraping and black marks on clothes
- Thermal fuse blowing repeatedly from a crushed or lint-packed vent
- Gas valve coils or igniter weakening, so heat stops partway through a load
- Stretched belt or worn idler pulley causing thumps or no tumble
