About LG Range Repair
What separates a range from its cooktop and oven is the shared brain. An LG range, whether gas, electric, induction or dual-fuel, freestanding or slide-in, routes everything through one main control, and many current models add ProBake Convection, air fry, InstaView and ThinQ Wi-Fi. Some are double-oven units. When the control or its power supply fails, the top and the oven can fail together.
That is why so many LG range calls are about power and controls rather than one heating part. A display that goes dark after a thunderstorm, a touch panel that freezes, or an oven that dies while some burners still work usually leads us to the main board, the incoming terminal block or a heat-damaged harness behind the range. Tampa's summer lightning makes the surge question a fair one to ask.
Layout matters too. Slide-in LG ranges sit tight between cabinets, and if the oven vent is blocked by a pan or foil, heat can build up around the controls. Double-oven models carry separate elements, sensors and door locks for each cavity, and those fail independently, so a dead lower oven with a healthy upper one is usually a component fault rather than a board problem.
Reset first: switch the range breaker off for a few minutes and back on, which clears many post-outage lockups. On a gas or dual-fuel model, confirm the cooktop burners light. If the range is connected to ThinQ, the app may show a code or a lockout. Please leave a gas range in place; the flexible connector behind it is a job for the technician, not a quick look.
We measure incoming voltage at the terminal block, inspect connectors for heat damage, test the board's relays and outputs, and work through the oven components. Dual-fuel ranges get both the gas ignition and the electric oven checked, and double ovens get each cavity tested. Repairs are usually worthwhile on units under about a decade old, slide-ins especially, because a replacement has to fit the same opening.
Where LG Ranges Tend to Fail
- Main control board damaged by a surge, display blank or frozen
- Scorched terminal block or harness, oven dead while burners work
- Lower cavity element, sensor or lock failing on double-oven models
- Slide-in controls overheating when the oven vent is covered
