LG Freezer Repair

In most homes, an LG freezer is a drawer. LG's standalone freezer range in the United States has been small, so the freezers we service are usually the bottom section of a French-door refrigerator, the freezer side of a side-by-side, or occasionally a Studio or Signature column freezer paired with a matching fridge. They share the compressor, control board and error codes with the refrigerator.

The freezer evaporator and fan sit behind the drawer's rear panel. If the defrost heater or its sensor fails, frost grows over the coil until the fan blades freeze or the airflow stops, and the display may show Er FF or Er dH. A freezer that warms while the fresh-food side stays cold usually points to that fan and defrost circuit. Some drawers hold an ice maker or bin, which adds another place for ice to build.

Mechanical problems are just as common. Drawer rails bend and baskets get overloaded, so the drawer rolls back a fraction short of closed and frost forms on food and drawer walls. In a humid house, that small gap lets in a lot of moisture. Check that the drawer closes fully and the gasket sits flat, then look at the back panel: heavy frost there points to defrost rather than the seal.

Please do not chip ice with a knife or screwdriver, since a punctured evaporator ends the conversation about repair. On the visit we test the freezer fan, defrost heater, defrost sensor and thermistors, read stored codes, and straighten or replace rails and gaskets. If the whole refrigerator is warming, we test the compressor and its drive board, including the linear compressor where fitted.

Defrost parts, fans and drawer hardware are modest repairs and almost always worth it. A compressor failure is a different conversation, and the answer depends heavily on whether LG's extended compressor coverage still applies to your serial number. We check that first, then price the job so you can weigh it against replacing the whole refrigerator.
