Thermador Freezer Repair

An ice maker that quits is the most common reason Thermador freezer owners call. The Freedom all-freezer column usually has an automatic ice maker, and production stops for one of three reasons: a frozen fill line, a dead water valve, or a module that no longer cycles. A frozen fill line is often a sign of a bigger issue, such as a door that is not sealing or a freezer running colder than set.

These columns install beside a matching refrigerator column or alone, and use frost-free cooling, with a fan pushing air over the evaporator and an electronic control in charge. Panel-ready doors are common, and the weight of a custom panel puts real strain on the hinges. Once a door sags, humid air slips in, and frost shows up on the cabinet walls and the ice bin. Defrost faults come next. When a defrost heater or sensor fails, frost packs the coil, and the cabinet creeps warmer while the compressor runs nonstop. Alarms and inconsistent temperatures that begin after a storm often trace to the control board or a sensor. The condenser and compressor behind the grille need clear airflow, and a dusty grille raises every running temperature in the system.

We read stored faults, take temperatures, test the defrost heater, its sensor and the evaporator fan, then work through the fill line, the water valve and the ice maker in order. Hinges are adjusted if the panel has dropped. Please do not chip frost with a tool. Resetting the breaker, confirming the ice maker's water supply is open and vacuuming the grille are safe first steps for any owner.

A Freedom freezer column is expensive and built into the kitchen, so repairs to its fans, controls, defrost parts and ice maker are almost always worth it.
