Houses, Apartments & Condos Across the Tampa Bay Area
Kenmore was the long-running Sears appliance label and now belongs to Transformco. Its products were produced under contract by Whirlpool, Frigidaire, LG and other makers, so the hardware inside varies widely from one Kenmore to the next. We decode the three-digit prefix on the Kenmore model number to learn who built the unit, then use that maker's test modes, failure history and part numbers. When a Kenmore-only board or trim piece is discontinued, we tell you before quoting.

A Store Brand With Many Makers
For generations Kenmore was the house label at Sears, but Sears never ran appliance plants of its own. It contracted the building to Whirlpool, Frigidaire (Electrolux), LG and others, who produced machines to Sears specifications. After the Sears bankruptcy the Kenmore name went to Transformco, which sells it through other stores.
So two Kenmore refrigerators from the same year can have completely different insides. Treating a Kenmore as one brand leads to wrong parts and wasted visits. Treating it as the product of whichever company built it points straight to the right failure patterns.
The Three Digits That Decode It
Every Kenmore model number starts with three digits, a decimal point and more digits. The first three are a supplier code. The codes we see most: Whirlpool made 106 (refrigerators), 110 (washers and dryers) and 665 (dishwashers); Frigidaire made 253 (refrigerators and freezers), 790 (ranges) and 417 (front-load laundry); LG made 795 and 796 (refrigerators and laundry).
Tags hide in predictable spots: the refrigerator door frame, the underside of a washer lid, the rim of the dryer door opening, behind a range's storage drawer and the side edge of a dishwasher tub. Include that number with your booking and the technician can plan tests and likely parts ahead of time.
Whirlpool-Built Kenmore Laundry
A large share of older Kenmore washers and dryers came from Whirlpool, and they behave exactly like their Whirlpool twins. Top-loaders fail at the lid switch, the drive coupling or the shifter, and the pump can seize on a stray sock. These machines are simple to open and test, which keeps diagnosis quick.
Whirlpool-built Kenmore dryers open their thermal fuse when the vent restricts airflow, flatten drum rollers, and wear belts and idler pulleys. Gas versions add igniters and gas valve coils that weaken with age. Most of these are common parts that are easy to get.
Frigidaire and LG Underneath
Frigidaire-built Kenmore refrigerators share Frigidaire's habits, including evaporator fan motors that fail and defrost systems that let the freezer frost over. Gas ranges from the Frigidaire side wear out the oven bake igniter, while electric versions burn out elements and surface unit switches.
Kenmore Elite fridges and front-loaders with an LG prefix use LG electronics and error codes, and many of the refrigerators run LG's linear compressor. We use LG test modes on those units. If you own a Kenmore Elite, the prefix on the tag tells us which of these playbooks applies.
Older Kenmores, Parts and the Repair Math
Because most internal parts are the original maker's parts, everyday items like fan motors, igniters, switches, pumps and belts stay easy to source. The trouble spots are Kenmore-only pieces such as certain control boards, knobs, consoles and trim, some of which are discontinued. We check before quoting.
Older Kenmore laundry pairs of Whirlpool origin are rugged and well worth a belt or switch. On an aging unit that needs a sealed-system repair, a main board or a transmission, we compare the bill with replacement and give you a straight opinion.
