Houses, Apartments & Condos Across the Tampa Bay Area
Viking started in Greenwood, Mississippi, and its first ranges reached customers in 1987, bringing restaurant-style cooking into homes. Owned by Middleby since 2013, it is best known for pro-style ranges and rangetops in all-gas and dual-fuel versions and also sells built-in refrigerators, dishwashers and wine units. We measure glow-bar amp draw, check spark modules and verify oven temperature with our own probe instead of judging a Viking by symptoms alone. Refrigeration gets its own workup, because Viking's built-in coolers fail in different ways than its ranges.

Restaurant Styling for the Home Kitchen
Viking began in Greenwood, Mississippi, and its first ranges reached customers in 1987. The pitch was simple: give home cooks equipment that looked and performed like a restaurant line, and the pro-style category grew out of it. The company has belonged to Middleby, a big commercial food-equipment group, since 2013.
Ranges and rangetops remain the core, joined over the years by wall ovens, refrigerators, freezers, wine units, dishwashers, microwave drawers and hoods. Newer products are sold as 3, 5 and 7 Series. Many kitchens still run the older Professional and Designer models, and we service those regularly.
How a Viking Burner and Oven Work
Viking cooktop burners are hefty, high-output castings lit by spark, and many relight on their own when a flame blows out. In an all-gas oven, a glow bar (a hot-surface igniter) lights the bake burner, and plenty of them add the infrared Gourmet-Glo broiler.
Viking dual-fuel models and wall ovens bake and broil with electric elements plus convection. Older ones hold temperature with a mechanical thermostat that wanders as it ages, while newer ones use an electronic probe and board. Which system you have changes the whole approach.
Slow Preheats, Clicking and Sagging Doors
The signature Viking oven complaint is a preheat that drags on or never finishes. A glow bar can shine bright orange yet pull too few amps for the gas safety valve to open, so we measure its amp draw rather than trusting its color. Cooktop igniters that click on and on usually point to grease or water at the burner base, or a tired spark module.
Viking oven doors are heavy, and the hinges weaken with years of use. A door that no longer pulls tight leaks heat, bakes unevenly and can cook the area around the controls. New hinges are a simple job and often solve problems blamed on the thermostat.
Viking Refrigeration Is Its Own Story
The refrigerators have never earned the reputation the ranges have. On built-ins we see failed fan motors, defrost faults, ice maker trouble, control errors and doors that drift out of square. A number of older built-in models were also recalled over a door problem, so it is worth checking yours against the federal recall database.
Viking dishwashers tend toward drain, door latch and control faults, and microwave drawers can jam or stop opening. None of these are unusual repairs, but the parts are Viking-specific, so we read the rating plate and confirm part numbers rather than working from a photo.
Keeping an Older Viking Cooking
Repairing a Viking range is nearly always the right move. Grates, burner castings and the cabinet last for decades, and igniters, spark modules, glow bars and thermostats are reasonable replacements. Parts come through a specialist distributor, and we tell you what we usually carry and what has to be ordered.
The tougher decision is an aging built-in refrigerator with a sealed-system failure. The repair is significant, and the cabinet opening limits what can go in its place. We give you the diagnosis, the repair price and an honest read on the alternatives.
