La Cornue Repair
Service for La Cornue Ranges, Ovens and Cooktops
A La Cornue is assembled by hand to its owner's specification, so no two are quite alike. We start by documenting how your range is built, then test burners, igniters and thermostats and explain both the price and how long parts will take.

A French range maker since 1908, La Cornue is known for the vaulted oven ceiling that circulates heat without a fan. Its Chateau ranges are hand-assembled to each buyer's choice of size, cooktop, color and trim, and the CornuFe line offers the look in set configurations. We document the exact build of each La Cornue, from oven types to cooktop modules and controls, because parts follow the individual range rather than a model family. We test burners, thermocouples and thermostats, then explain the lead time on any part from France before you approve.

The Vaulted Oven Behind the Name
La Cornue dates to 1908, when Albert Dupuy, working outside Paris, built an oven whose ceiling curved like a vault. That shape keeps hot air rolling around the food without a fan, and it remains the signature of every range the company makes.
Chateau ranges are made to order: the owner picks the width, the ovens, the cooktop modules, the enamel color and a trim finish of brass, nickel, chrome or copper. CornuFe models deliver a similar style in a short list of fixed layouts for less money. In Tampa these ranges usually anchor custom kitchens in South Tampa, Davis Islands and larger homes around the county.
Reading a Build-to-Order Range
Diagnosis begins with an inventory. Ovens may be gas, electric or one of each, and electric versions can add convection. The cooktop might combine standard and high-output burners, a cast-iron French top with its strongest heat in the middle ring, a plancha, an induction zone or a simmer plate.
Each module has its own controls and safety devices, and parts are matched to the individual range, not to a broad model family. We record the configuration and serial details before ordering so the right components arrive the first time.
Burners, Igniters and Thermostats
The most common complaint is a burner that lights but dies when the knob is released. Many of these burners use a thermocouple: as long as the flame keeps it hot, it holds the gas valve open, and a weak or misaligned thermocouple drops the flame. Never prop the knob or bypass that device.
Igniter electrodes and the switches behind the knobs wear out, and spilled grease or moisture can short the spark so every igniter clicks at once. A drifting thermostat makes the oven run hot or cool relative to the dial, and a French top or plancha can heat unevenly when its burner or control is not working. Each is a replaceable part.
Humidity, Salt Air and the Finish
Brass and copper trim tarnishes faster in Tampa's damp air, and homes near the bay add salt that speeds the process. Wiping the trim dry after cooking and using the recommended polish keeps it bright. Moisture can also collect inside the oven as it cools, so leaving the door ajar briefly helps protect the interior.
Enamel can chip when heavy pans land on it, and knobs loosen over time. During any service we cover the finish and trim, use non-abrasive tools and note any cosmetic parts you may want to order along with the repair.
Long Lead Times, Long Service Life
Parts usually come from France through the maker's distribution, matched to your range, and lead times can run several weeks or more. At the diagnosis we list the part, where it comes from, the expected wait, and which burners or ovens are safe to keep using until it arrives.
Replacing a La Cornue is costly and slow, so repairing thermocouples, igniters, valves, thermostats and controls is almost always the sensible choice. If you ever smell gas, get everyone outside first, then phone 911 or your gas company from there; call us once it is safe.
