Houses, Apartments & Condos Across the Tampa Bay Area
Founded in Milwaukee in 1917 and still owned by the family, Perlick has deep roots in commercial bar and beer dispensing equipment. Its residential line includes built-in under-counter refrigerators, beverage centers, wine reserves, beer dispensers and clear-ice makers, some rated for outdoor kitchens. We check the front grille, condenser airflow, door seal and drain setup first, since installation problems on built-in units often look like failed parts. Because Perlick parts are sold through specialty distributors, we verify the part number and the delivery time before asking for your go-ahead.

Bar Equipment Roots in a Residential Package
Perlick dates to 1917 in Milwaukee and remains in family hands. For most of its history it built commercial bar equipment: draft beer systems, underbar coolers and stainless bar stations. The home line of refrigerators, beverage centers, wine reserves, beer dispensers and ice makers carries that commercial approach into homes.
You will find Perlick units built into kitchen islands, butler's pantries, home bars and outdoor kitchens, often in South Tampa, Westchase and newer homes with a covered lanai. Heavy stainless or glass doors and sturdy shelving set them apart from typical beverage coolers, and those heavier doors put more load on hinges and gaskets over time.
Everything Breathes Through the Toe Kick
Perlick units are designed to sit flush in cabinetry, so they breathe in and out through the toe-kick grille. A fan draws room air across the condenser and sends it back out the same opening. Once dust or pet hair mats the condenser, run times stretch, the cabinet warms, and the unit starts to look as if its compressor or control is failing.
Installation matters just as much. A grille blocked by a rug, a unit pushed too deep into its opening, or a drain line run without enough slope can all mimic part failures. We check airflow, the grille, the door seal and the installation before testing sensors, fans, boards or the sealed system.
Under-Counter Ice Makers: Drains, Scale and Slime
Perlick ice makers produce clear ice and need somewhere to send meltwater and rinse water. Units without a gravity drain use a drain pump, and a failed or clogged pump is one of the most common service calls. The machine may stop making ice or start leaking onto the floor.
Mineral scale and biofilm build up on the water distributor and the evaporator plate, slowing production and making cloudy or thin cubes. Tampa water often leaves visible scale, so periodic cleaning with an approved ice machine cleaner keeps output up. Inlet valves can also stick or leak, especially after scale reaches their screens.
Lanais, Outdoor Kitchens and Salt Air
Perlick offers models rated for outdoor use, and those are the only ones that belong outside. Even an outdoor-rated unit on a Tampa lanai works hard through a summer of heat and humidity, and units close to the bay face salt air that corrodes condenser fins and hinges. Indoor-only models placed outside wear out quickly, and if that is what is behind the trouble, we say so.
Outdoor units also see more power disruption during summer storms. A control board that failed right after a lightning storm is a good reason to put the replacement on surge protection. After a flood or storm surge, do not power on a unit that sat in water; its controls and fan motors need inspection first.
Cut-Out Sizes Make Repair the Usual Answer
A Perlick unit is sized to a specific cabinet opening with front venting, and a replacement has to match those dimensions closely. So most repairs pay off: fans, gaskets, hinges, controls, pumps and, on newer units, sealed-system work. Perlick parts are sold through specialty distributors; common items arrive in reasonable time, while boards may take longer.
On an older unit with a sealed-system failure or an obsolete control, the math changes. We lay out the total cost, the realistic life left after the repair, and which replacements will fit your opening. You get the diagnosis and price before any part is ordered.
