About Avanti Stove Repair
An Avanti gas stove is a compact freestanding unit, usually 20 or 24 inches wide, with four burners and a small oven in a footprint that fits garage apartments, older homes with narrow openings and small condo kitchens. Burners light by electronic spark on most models and by match on some simpler ones, and the oven has its own igniter and safety valve. Close burner spacing means one spill reaches several burners.
That spacing explains most top-side calls. A burner that will not light usually has clogged ports, a cap sitting off-center or an igniter crusted with residue. Clicking that continues after the knob is off is a wet or failed spark switch. Small, weak or yellow flames point to dirty burners or a head not seated squarely. A burner that lights and then sputters out is often a draft or those same clogged ports.
Fuel type is worth asking about. Some Avanti models ship set up for natural gas and need a conversion kit or orifice change to run on propane. Run a natural-gas setup on propane and the flames come out tall, yellow and sooty. If the stove came from another house, or the home's fuel has changed, confirm the conversion was done properly before cooking on it.
On the oven side, slow lighting or no flame at all is typically a weakened igniter or a safety valve that is not opening. We test igniters, switches and the spark module, check oven ignition and the valve, and look at flame quality on every burner. We do not alter the household gas piping, but we will tell you if the supply looks wrong for the fuel the stove is set up for.
Clean caps and heads with the stove off and cool, clear ports with a fine wire rather than a toothpick that can snap off inside, dry everything and reseat it square. If you smell gas, leave right away and call the gas utility or 911 from outside without flipping switches. Ignition and burner repairs are worth doing; a failed oven valve on an older compact stove may favor replacement.
Where Avanti Stoves Tend to Fail
- Clogged ports or off-center caps on tightly spaced burners
- Spark switch wet from a spill, igniters clicking nonstop
- Weak oven igniter or safety valve not opening
- Natural-gas setup used on propane, flames tall and yellow
