Older Houses, New Apartments
In Childs Park the lots are compact, and the washer tends to be under the carport or in a small utility room. Older machines here often need belts, pumps or lid switches rather than full replacement, and we will say when a repair beats buying new. In the new apartments, the laundry is a closet pair, and the appliances may belong to the property. Check with the leasing office before booking.
Salt Air at the Dryer Vent
Along the Maximo Moorings and Broadwater canals, a dryer's outside hood takes the brunt of the salt air. When a metal flap rusts half shut, lint collects behind it and the dryer runs hot and slow. Start a load and watch the hood from outside; it should open fully. A corroded hood should be replaced, and a screen should never be added over the outlet because it traps lint. Rust also attacks the outdoor parts of patio refrigerators and the condenser fins of any unit kept in an open garage near the water.
The waterfront streets are mapped Zone A; a good part of the inland ZIP has no evacuation zone at all.
