Houses, Apartments & Condos Across the Tampa Bay Area
Hernando Beach, built on canals carved from coastal wetland starting in 1959, is the largest community here. Weeki Wachee Gardens lines the lower river, and Pine Island, Bayport and a sliver of Aripeka fill out the ZIP. Homes cluster along the water. All of it is unincorporated Hernando County, with county water. Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative serves much of the ZIP, with Duke Energy Florida in parts.

What Helene Did Here
Most of 34607 is in evacuation Zone A. Helene's surge in September 2024 ran several feet deep along Hernando's coast, flooded Hernando Beach and Shoal Line Boulevard, and left several feet of water inside homes in Weeki Wachee Gardens. Many appliances in those homes were total losses.
If yours was in the water, do not plug it in to test it. A technician should inspect the controls, motor and wiring first, and we will tell you plainly when replacement is the safer choice.
Laundry Under the House
In raised houses the washer and dryer often sit in the ground-level enclosure. That keeps the living floor dry but leaves the laundry exposed to surge and to constant damp salt air. Raising the machines on a platform and using a rigid, sealed dryer duct reduces corrosion and lint problems.
Second homes on the canals need a closing routine before the owners leave. Shut the water supply to the washer and ice maker, leave the washer door and dispenser open, empty and unplug the fridge if it will sit for months, and switch off the breaker for the dryer and range if the house will be closed through storm season. A trusted neighbor with a key is worth having. If a storm comes through while you are away, ask them to check for water before anyone turns the power back on to the ground-level enclosure.
